Good Grief Marathon Training

Over the span of 20 weeks starting December 8, Borgess Run Camp has an experience for marathoners that provides a little more guidance and support, longer runs, more Gu and Gu Brew. Persons considering Good Grief marathon training should be able to run six or seven miles without stopping prior to the beginning of camp. Camp begins with two weeks at the Borgess Health & Fitness Center; then we take two weeks “off” for the holiday, with some informal programming, such as encouragement to meet up at the One One Run on January 1 in Spring Valley Park. January is dedicated to “expeditions” into the greater Kalamazoo area. Although Good Grief is primarily designed for marathoners, half marathoners may sign up for Good Grief. They will be assigned to half marathon Good Grief groups, and every effort will be made to provide them with “team support” and half-marathon training schedules designed for the front end of the 20 weeks. All half marathon teams, however, will be formed on Feburary 2, and half marathoners who took part in Good Grief can expect to “start over” with their team training schedules. (Note, however, that not all individuals on teams run the same mileage every week). Individuals training for the 5K should not join Good Grief
